"Vice City" Giclée Print

I think I used to love living in a college town more before I realized it operated too similarly to a company town—large transient population, reduced affordable housing, the tax exempt university campus shifting the tax burden onto local residents, increased police force, etc.

But I also am deeply inspired by who it attracts. Some of my closest friends and peers I’ve met because they came for either the writers workshop or grad programs or our print making facilities.

So here is what I want to say to those who are new here:
Welcome! This is a truly special place not solely for the college but for all the people who have worked hard to build this community into what is and what it could be. I hope you’ll feel inspired to treat our home as more than a transactional space but a place you can be a steward of—if even briefly. Join one of our volunteer groups or come to mending and craft meetups at the coffee shops. Read from local authors or hear them speak at prairie lights. Learn about our native ecosystem by walking through Hickory Hill. Speak up for our vulnerable communities whose city’s protections dwindle more every year.

It’s so much more than just bars and smokeshops.
