Something I’ve grown to appreciate is the feeling of flying over the patchwork of Iowa farmland as we descend into the Cedar Rapids airport. Filling my lungs with the first deep breath of thick grassy air and hearing that familiar song of the summer cicada. The more of the world I get to see, the more home sick I get for my little corner of it.
The original piece is part of the larger body of work titled “Flyover State”, an exhibition on life and the perceptions of the Midwest.
