I find myself paying more attention to the places that line my streets. I’m interested in the way local establishments create a community’s character as part of the urban landscape. The cars in the lot at Star Motors has become a comforting intriguing source of inspiration on my daily walks. The flecks of rust and jewel toned hues contrast today’s homogeneous grayscale car fleets. With everything in our world losing color and narrowing the breadth of variation, I desperately cling to anything that is even slightly non conforming. Nostalgic for things that feel human. The original piece is part of the larger body of work titled “Flyover State”, an exhibition on life and the perceptions of the Midwest.
