Details

I often think about the reductiveness of the phrase "Flyover State". The implication of it being that a place is so unworthy of attention that one would rather miss it entirely. When much of Iowa's natural habitat has been bought and eviscerated for corporate interests it makes sense why the ugliness is all that people see. I'm here to show why Iowa's land is still worth saving.

The original piece is part of the larger body of work titled “Flyover State”, an exhibition on life and the perceptions of the Midwest. Painted from reference photo provided by Bryan Asklof.
